Your trips stay between friends.
Effective 27 October 2026
The short version. Wayfare has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, and the developer runs no servers. Your trips are stored in your own iCloud account and shared, through Apple's iCloud, only with the people you invite. Receipts are read and translated on your iPhone.
Signing in
Wayfare uses Sign in with Apple. It asks only for your name, which you can change, and it is shown to the people in the trips you join. Apple gives the app an anonymous identifier for your account; Wayfare does not ask for your email address.
Your trips and iCloud
Trips, people, expenses, items, tips and the receipt photos you attach are stored on your iPhone and synced with Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) under your Apple Account, so they appear on your other devices. When you invite people to a trip, Apple's iCloud sharing makes that trip — and only that trip — available to them. Anyone who has the invite link can join the trip, so share it only with the people you're travelling with. The developer has no access to your iCloud data. Apple processes it under its privacy policy (apple.com/legal/privacy).
Receipts
When you scan or import a receipt, the text is recognised on your iPhone with Apple's Vision framework, and item names are translated with Apple's on-device Translation framework. Receipts are never uploaded for reading. The receipt image is saved with the expense and synced and shared like the rest of the trip.
Tip suggestions
Tip suggestions come from the tipping guide built into the app. To pick the country, Wayfare looks at the receipt text, the trip's name and flag, and the currency, all on your device. It does not use your location.
What is not collected
No analytics, crash reporting, advertising or third-party SDKs. Nothing is sold or shared for advertising. The App Store privacy label reflects this: the only data the app handles is what you store in your own iCloud.
Deleting your data
Delete an expense or a trip in the app and it is removed from iCloud for you and the people it was shared with (a trip you joined is removed only for you). Deleting the app and its data in Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage removes everything Wayfare stored in your iCloud.
Children
Wayfare is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.
