Your steps.
Right now.
Steps Now puts today's step count on your Home Screen as a single, honest ring. It reads your iPhone's step counter directly, so the number keeps up with you instead of trailing minutes behind.
The number on your Home Screen should match the walk you just took.
Apple Health receives your iPhone's steps in batches, so most widgets show a figure that's minutes old. Steps Now reads the motion sensor alongside Health and shows today's total within seconds.
A 10-minute walk, as the widget sees it
Illustration. How far Health lags depends on your device and on iOS.
Two readers, one honest number
- Motion sensor for right nowThe widget asks your iPhone's step counter directly every time it refreshes.
- Apple Health for the full daySteps from your Apple Watch and other apps count too.
- Never blank, never misleadingIf iOS hasn't refreshed the widget in a while, it says how old the number is.
One glance tells you how your day is going.
The ring fills toward your goal and changes color as you go, from coral to amber to lime to green. You'll know where you are without reading a single digit. Drag the slider to try it.
Then see the whole story.
A tap on the widget opens your statistics: day, week or month, compared with the period before. Comparisons are fair, too. At 3 pm you're compared with yesterday at 3 pm, not with all of yesterday.
- Charts by hour and by daySee when you actually moved, with your goal drawn in for reference.
- Comparisons that mean somethingUp or down against yesterday, last week or last month, in steps and percent.
- Go back in timeStep through past days, weeks and months with the arrows.
Everything it does, it does properly.

Pick a preset, drag a slider, or fine-tune to the exact step. The widget follows instantly.
Resets at midnight
The widget already knows when your day ends, so it starts fresh at 00:00 even if you never open the app.

Nothing leaves your iPhone. Not even a little.
Steps Now has no servers, no account and no analytics. In fact the app contains no networking code at all. Your steps are read on your device, shown on your device, and stay there.

Questions, answered.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
No. Your iPhone counts steps on its own. If you wear an Apple Watch, or use other apps that write steps to Apple Health, those steps are included as well.
Why does the widget sometimes show "updated 12 min ago"?
iOS decides how often any widget may refresh. When it hasn't refreshed for a while, Steps Now says how old the number is instead of passing it off as current. Opening the app refreshes it straight away.
Does it drain my battery?
No. It reads values your iPhone already records and works within the refresh limits iOS gives every widget.
Which iPhones are supported?
Any iPhone running iOS 15 or later.
Is it really free?
Yes. No ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases.
Something isn't working.
The support page covers the common fixes. You can also write to support@lykhin.com.
