Getting started
Add the widget to your Home Screen
- Open Steps Now once and tap Continue on the Apple Health card.
- Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the icons jiggle.
- Tap Edit in the top-left corner, then Add Widget.
- Search for Steps Now, choose the Steps widget and tap Add Widget.
Tap the widget at any time to open your day, week and month statistics.
Change your daily goal
In the app, tap Change goal under today's total, or the flag button at the top right. Pick a preset, drag the slider or fine-tune, then tap Done. The widget updates right away.
Turn usage statistics on or off
Tap the ••• button at the top left of the app and switch Share Usage Data on or off. Usage statistics are anonymous and never include your step counts or Health data. See the privacy policy for details.
What do the ring colors mean?
Coral means under 34% of your goal, amber 34–66%, lime 67–99%, and green means you've reached your goal.
Troubleshooting
The widget says "Connect Health"
Open Steps Now and tap Continue on the Apple Health card. If you declined earlier, iOS won't ask again. Turn it on in Settings › Health › Data Access & Devices › Steps Now and enable Steps.
No steps are shown
Open the Health app and check that it shows steps for today. If it doesn't, go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Motion & Fitness and make sure Fitness Tracking is on, and that Health is allowed in the list below it.
The widget shows "updated … ago"
iOS limits how often any widget can refresh. When it hasn't refreshed for a while, Steps Now shows how old the number is rather than passing it off as current. Opening the app refreshes the widget immediately.
My total differs from the Health app
For the last few minutes, Steps Now may be ahead of Health, because it reads the motion sensor directly while Health receives steps in batches. The two match once Health catches up.
The widget doesn't show my new goal
Open the app once after changing the goal. That pushes the change to the widget straight away. If it still shows the old goal, remove the widget and add it again.
